palanki narayanaThis is the 300 tonne statue of Lord Buddha erected on the Rock of Gibraltor in the Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad. In the first effort, the boats carrying the statue capsized and the statue sank, apart from many lives lost. The statue was salvaged and set up, it is major tourist attraction now.

After the incident (statue fell in Lake while transporting) it took two-year salvage operation, the statue was pulled out of the lake on 1 December 1992, the statue was installed on the platform successfully. In 2006, the Dalai Lama consecrated the statue after performing a ritual.

palanki narayanaWhen I visited this temple, I was asked to leave out the camera. The security forgot about camera phones, which many devotees used for clicking pictures of Srila Prabhupada's idol in the sanctorum!

Debmalya Mazumder

When I really couldn’t able to get the right shot, I was so disappointed. Some conditions were undesirable. It was becoming difficult for me to interact with my subject. This was the last shot from that particular place I took forcefully before zipping up my backpack. Perhaps the most beautiful Kolkata did not want me to be left with empty hand.

Debmalya MazumderThanks a lot Sir. Actually the platform on which my instrument was fixed was vibrating with the wave of the river. Frequent water vessels were running and also I didn't had much time. So conditions were not in favour to me. However it was managed to some extent.
