Dear Dr.Shukla, Thanks for the information. From the size of the creature it is clear that it is a nymph (sub-adult). I salvaged another photo from which it looks more like a fly.

palanki-narayana When I spotted this insect it just looked like two conjoined mustard seeds with spokes radiating out. When the photo was enlarged to 36 times the sensor size, the 'mustard seeds' were seen to be two segments of the thorax and the star shaped appendages are the markings on the wings which are transparent. Altogether, a fascinating creature!

PURUSHOTTAM T SHUKLA Dear Palanky Narayana; You are right as the abdomen looks like Drosohila species but I am confused with the star shaped appendages near it.Are they part of the nymph photographed?
