The biggest surprise of this year Oscars to me was the movie with most nomnations(12 including best picture, director, actor etc.) did not make it to Best Screenplay/Best Adapeted Screenplay. To add that it actually won an award for BEst direction was even a bigger surprise.

I still can't fathom that "Writing's on the Wall" by Sam Smith won for Original Song, beating the only nomination for 'Youth', "Simple Song
#3
". Simple Song
#3
renders profound emotional depth to the story, it acts as a character in itself. Your opinion on why 'Writing's on the Wall' might have won.

I would like to add, that Oscars/GOlden Globe has live telecast but none of our awards has? Why? Why they super edit the award and then present to TV audiences/

Raja SenExactly. Hear, hear. It's shameful that we have to record the prize-giving separately and the performances -- with a few changes of costume etc -- separately from the ceremony itself. Ugh.

Alright, guys. That's it from me and I'm glad you enjoyed this year's Oscars -- well, mostly, anyway. Do watch Fassbender's overlooked performance in Steve Jobs though, it's something sensational. And now we can go watch Fury Road again. I'm off now but you can find me @rajasen on twitter for any questions/comments. TO VALHALLA!

Spotlight deserved every bit. In fact i was rooting for Spotlight and MMFR for Best Director also. Inarritu was terrific in Birdman, but not so much in Revenant.

This year is a great example of one of those years where more nomnations does not mean more wins. But just by the sheer number of nominations that Revanent has got, you have to beleive that it was in top 5 in most of the catgories, but never popular as a whole.

Why cant our Indian film industry has some awards like Oscar, organized and near authentic. Having said that, I have stopped watching Bollywood awards long time back because of bias-ness, stupid categories and awards are given to please people. But when we will have awards like Oscars?

Raja SenYou're preaching to the choir, Gaurav. We all want awards we can believe in. Both we the audience as well as the actors who currently strike deals to win awards -- I'm sure they'd much rather have an award they can respect. But all the awards shows end up making the same mistakes and having the same sordid set of priorities. It's most depressing.
